Not only did this driver not maintain their lane, but they headed the wrong way into traffic using this Veterans Expressway off-ramp despite signage warning drivers “Do not enter.”

Hillsborough County driver and Redditor /u/MessyMcMessMaker shared headshaking dashcam footage from this Veterans Expressway on/off-ramp from earlier in April (Apr. 23, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a clueless driver in their pickup with their head in the clouds, failing to maintain their lane and charging the wrong way into an expressway, against traffic.

Check out this bonehead’s hare-brained move below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident took place at the Veterans Expressway exit/entrance off of Lutz Lake Fern Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the screenshot of the location and dashcam shows, OP is pointed eastbound, in one of two left turn lanes headed onto Veterans Expressway.

He slots into the leftmost turn lane with another driver in a black Ford F-150 crew cab in the next lane over, slightly in front of them.

That F-150 driver should’ve followed the clearly visible lane marking lines, which, if they had, would’ve avoided what followed.

The F-150 driver not only doesn’t stay in their lane, but they encroach into OP’s lane, assuming that the exit to Veterans Expressway is actually the on-ramp.

After cutting OP off, they head against traffic into the Veterans Expressway off-ramp, but only for a little before realizing their mistake and making a U-turn to self-correct.

“Man, those dotted lines and big red DO NOT ENTER signs on both sides of the roadway are really tough to see,” the top comment from /u/reppit reads.

“Most likely on the phone based on the multiple idiotic maneuvers,” /u/Climate_Best presumes.

“Pickup drivers are a special breed. Take that how you like,” /u/WhatsUpSteve humurously added.

In Florida, cutting across lanes or failing to maintain a lane (under Florida Statutes §316.089) typically brings about $100–$200 in fines and 3 points. Driving the wrong way on an off-ramp can add another citation (like failure to obey traffic control devices), with additional fines and ~3 more points. If it’s considered especially dangerous, it can be charged as Florida Statutes §316.192, carrying 4 points, higher fines, and possible criminal penalties.
