An elderly driver turning onto Indian River was caught on dashcam, befuddled by where he’s supposed to drive.
New Haven County area driver and Redditor /u/no1roots4goliath shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in May (May 4, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an elderly driver in their Chevrolet Equinox completely confused by where he’s supposed to place his SUV after making a right.
Check out the poor display of driving technique below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident began at the intersection of Prindle Hill Rd. and Indian River Rd. and continued on for another 200 meters as Indian River veered right (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP comes up to an elderly driver in the Chevrolet Equinox at the aforementioned intersection.
The driver is observed making a right into the left turn lane into opposing traffic.
When met, head-on, by another driver coming towards him to turn left, the elderly driver re-routes around him, then heads back into what’s now the center turn lane, driving down it for another 200 feet until Indian River veers right.
“My audio was muted here, but I honked at him when he entered the wrong lane, waved him over to get back… then watched as he entered the median area between two double yellows, and honked again and motioned to get over. He was going my way (until the parking lot there), but I have no idea what he thought he was doing,” OP clarified in the comments.
“I’m pretty sure the old driver at the wheel had no idea where the lanes they were,” /u/The_Relentless frankly put it.
“Perhaps their seeing eye dog was doing the driving,” /u/BriscoCounty JR23 humorously added.
In Orange, Connecticut, driving into or traveling along a center turn lane for distance can be cited as improper use of a limited-access lane or failure to keep right under Connecticut General Statutes §14-230 and related provisions. Typical penalties are an infraction with a fine around $90–$150, plus administrative fees. It generally adds about 1 point to your Connecticut license (more if paired with unsafe lane change or reckless driving).
