This careless pickup driver broke a cardinal rule of lane changing, assuming that turning on your signal absolves you from actually looking with your eyes.
Floyd County driver and Redditor /u/Boonshy shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in April (Apr 28, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a careless driver in their Ford pickup pull a simultaneous signal/lane change, almost wiping out OP, the dashcam owner.
Check out how /u/Boonshy’s quick reflexes paid off in the dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the 2200 block of Shorter Ave (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is heading eastbound down Shorter Ave, just passing the intersection with Coosawattee.
It’s raining fairly hard, so drivers should be paying more attention with reduced speeds and visibility.
Such is not the case with this Ford Pickup driver as OP passes the Circle K, they, as mentioned, pull a simultaneous signal/lane change without doing their due diligence of checking their blind spots with their own two eyes.
OP swerves into the center turn lane, which was thankfully clear, avoiding what would’ve been one hard side swipe.
“What a j**k off. I posted a video like this, and half the people said I was just mad that I lost at traffic,” the top comment from /u/Ottomatica reads.
OP was extremely lucky that the opposing lanes were empty,” /u/OptimalFunction reiterated.
“A bit of both. I would have pitted them if the lanes were not empty,” OP replied.
In Rome, Georgia, a driver who makes an unsafe simultaneous lane change without checking if the lane is clear could be cited for improper/erratic lane change or failure to maintain lane, which carries 3 points on a Georgia license. Fines vary by court and county, but a typical ticket is often around $150–$300 before surcharges and court costs. If the maneuver is considered especially dangerous, an officer could instead cite reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor with 4 points and much steeper penalties. (dds.georgia.gov)
