A driver on Elk Grove Blvd. might’ve mistook a green turn arrow as his, causing them to run this red and almost colliding with a turning dashcam owner with the right of way.

Sacramento-area driver and Redditor /u/rTheWorst shared head-shaking dashcam footage from this busy Elk Grove intersection from earlier in May (May 26, 2026) on the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing a distracted driver mistaking a green turn arrow for his own, causing him to run this red and nearly collide.

Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Elk Grove Blvd. and Taron Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is pointed eastbound on Elk Grove Blvd, ready to bust a U-turn headed the opposite way.

As he gets the green to turn, a westbound driver headed straight sees a green turn arrow and mistakenly takes it as his cue to go.

Thankfully, OP was not making an actual left and was able to complete the U-turn without getting hit.

As there was no one in front of them, OP took the opportunity to slow before turning into ARCO to roll down his window and yell at the offending driver if they were, “…f***in’ for real?”

The driver seems to fess up and take responsibility for their massive co*k-up with a “I’m sorry” in reply.

“They probably reacted to a green arrow and just committed to the f*** up, but were very aware of how much of a f*** up it was,” the top comment from /u/iSUCKatTHISgameYO reads.

“I see that quite a lot, actually. Someone waiting at a light, not paying full attention ahead of them, and traffic to their left gets the green arrow and starts moving. They see it in their peripheral vision and instinctively think they should also start going at the same time,” /u/PatrickGSR94 concurred.

“It’s so weird when you see a clip in this sub without any geographical context and yet you immediately know where the clip takes place,” local /u/oif_vet added/

“EG gonna EG man 😂”

In Elk Grove, CA, running a red light typically costs about $490–$600 total after court fees and penalty assessments are added, and it adds 1 DMV point to your driving record. That point usually stays on your record for about 3 years and can raise insurance rates.
