Dashcam footage shows them clearly running a red light, but that’s not what they told police.

Prince George’s County-area driver and Redditor /u/fnkdrspok shared headshaking dashcam footage from this busy Bowie intersection from earlier in May (May 22, 2026) showing a Nissan driver blowing a red light, getting t-boned, almost flipping and, when questioned by police, blaming the innocent victim driver instead.

Check out the dashcam footage that exonerated an innocent driver below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident occurred at the intersection of US-301 and Ballpark Rd/Heritage Blvd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here).

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed southbound on the 301 across the aforementioned intersection towards Upper Marlboro.

They get the green to go, which means cross traffic has had the red light for quite some time.

A driver in a silver Chevrolet Malibu goes and unfortunatly t-bones a driver in a dark Nissan Rogue who tried to turn left against a red way too late.

The hit is so hard that the Rogue almost tips over.

The Malibu, almost certainly totaled.

“When I got to the scene, I checked on the SUV first, all the airbags were deployed, and they were still in the car. We couldn’t get them out without hurting them more, so we left them in there. (Other witnesses were with me) But when I got to the other car, he was standing outside of it, holding his neck, on the phone. I told him I have video on my dashcam, he put the phone down and told them he will call them back and spoke to me directly for a bit to exchange information,” OP explained in the comments in response to someone asking what the Malibu driver’s face looked like when they found out dashcam footage existed.

“So to answer your question, he was super excited imo. He pepped up when I told him. Eventually, I left the scene, was home by this time. Got a call from an unknown number, it was a county cop. They asked me to send the video directly to them. They followed up like 5 mins later saying, thanks, this helps a lot! That’s pretty much the gist of what happened. Oh, I’m now an official witness so I had to do a statement as well.”

In Massachusetts, running a red light is typically a 3-point moving violation. The fine is usually about $100–$150, plus court fees and surcharges that can push the total higher. If it causes an accident, you can also be hit with additional citations like negligent operation, which can raise both fines and insurance impacts significantly.
