This brain-dead driver not only used a turn lane to go straight, but they also ran the red, too, causing cross traffic to come to a halt.

OC-area driver and Redditor /u/ThePrussianGrippe shared headshaking dashcam footage from Placentia from earlier in June (June 19, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing this Toyota Camry driver making the harebrained decision to run a red, using the turn-only lane as their own personal express lane.

Check out the dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Rose Dr. and Imperial Highway (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed north on Rose towards the nearby Arco.

Suddenly, a driver in a red Toyota Camry (8RJN912) pulls up behind him.

Not wanting to wait for some reason, the driver in the Camry pulls into the turn-only lane to the right and, against a red light and cross traffic, enters the intersection to cross.

Cross traffic, bewildered at this dangerous, unorthodox driving maneuver, emergency brakes to avoid hitting the goofball.

Only by the grace of God do they make it across safely and also into the Arco station, where, a few seconds later, OP also pulls into.

Their dangerous maneuver saved them no time at all.

“What the hell, man!?!,” the top comment from /u/Ride-Entire reads. “What could have possibly been going through their mind? In the first portion, it looks like they’re gesticulating wildly for you to go… through the red light.”

“Don’t know. They turned into the same gas station I was going to, and were still arguing about whatever they were arguing about in the beginning of the video,” OP replied.

“That might be the craziest one I’ve seen on here that wasn’t an accident. Lunacy,” /u/eamondo5150 added.

“I was a bit tired after a longish day, and I genuinely didn’t even realize where they came from at first because of how stupid the maneuver was,” OP replied.

In Orange County, CA, going straight through a turn-only lane on a red light would typically be cited as running a red light (CVC 21453) and may include an additional lane-use violation depending on the officer’s discretion. Typical penalty: 1 DMV point and about $490–$550 total in fines and assessments. (legalclarity.org)
