This Jeep Grand Cherokee owner committed to their no-look lane change, coming within inches of an actual collision.
Ingham County-area driver and Redditor shared headshaking dashcam footage from the outskirts of MSU from earlier in June (June 23, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subeddit showing a driver making a lane change and just plain ol’ assuming no one was next to them when, in fact, someone very much was.
Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on Farm Ln just after the intersection with Mt Hope Rd, next to the MSU Scene Shop (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is northbound on Farm Ln towards MSU and just passed the aforementioned intersection.
Suddenly, a driver in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee in the left lane starts to change lanes despite OP and his car being right there.
OP leans on his horn, but does that deter the no-look lane changer?
Oh, no. Quite the opposite, they complete their lane change, literally running OP off the road and into the bike lane.
Thankfully, they didn’t hit.
“I love how they’re tooling along until OP tries to pass them. NOW they need to pass the other vehicle,” the top comment from /u/Randomfactoid412 reads.
” I put on my turn signal, which means I now have the right of way and don’t even need to look,” seems to be becoming an even more common mentality lately…,” /u/slopezski added.
“The fact that they just kept going after you started honking too. Some people, I swear,” /u/Zealousideal_AD8500 noted.
In East Lansing, an unsafe or “no-look” lane change would typically be cited as improper lane use / unsafe lane change under Michigan law. Expect roughly $110–$130 total in fines and costs and 2 points on your driving record if convicted, though the exact amount can vary by court. (legalclarity.org)
