This innocent dashcam owner just got off the 54, only to be almost taken out, seemingly on purpose, but a red light-running driver in their Honda Odyssey.

San Diego County area driver and Redditor /u/ptahsmummyfrog shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in June (June 24, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an absolute nutter of a driver running a red on Reo Dr. and almost totaling his ride for simply trying to turn left.

Check out what seemed like a targeted hit of a red light run below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on the border of National City and Chula Vista at the intersection of the 54 on/offramp and Reo Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP exits the 54 headed eastbound and slots into a turn lane to turn left towards Reo Dr.

With a green light, he has the right of way.

Just as he approaches the aforementioned intersection, a driver in a Honda Odyssey facing a red light suddenly goes.

Does the Odyssey driver swerve out of the way?

No, quite the opposite, they continue straight, having the gall to honk at OP, too.

“What the f***?” OP shouts, understandably.

Thankfully, OP’s paying attention and avoided what would’ve been an expensive side swipe accident.

“Good job avoiding them too!, one of the top comments from /u/Let_It_Marinate33 reads.

“San Diego has some of the worst f***ing drivers,” local /u/thait84 added.

In San Diego (same California rules statewide), running a red light is typically about $490–$550 total after fees and adds 1 DMV point to your driving record. Insurance can also go up afterward. (LegalClarity)
