A near-sideswipe accident led to one violent crash that sent a van spinning a full 360 degrees.
Atlanta-area driver and Redditor /u/Boons_McGee shared shocking dashcam footage from earlier from the tail end of July (July 28, 2026) from I-20 to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in one beat-up Toyota Camry backing off from a dangerous lane change that leads them to lose control and rope in an innocent driver as they end up pit maneuvering their van.
Check out how it all played out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on I-20 right near Exit 52 A towards SR-280/Holmes Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed west on I-20 towards the 285 and Adamsville.
Suddenly, a driver seemingly headed onto the exit offramp jerks back onto I-20, across the gore zone, and almost heads towards OP in Lane #2.
In a severely beat-up Toyota Camry with a spare tire on the left driver’s side wheel already on what looks like a collapsed front suspension, the driver loses control and slams into the guardrail to their right.
This sends them across OP’s front and into the rear quarter panel of an innocent driver in a white Chrysler Pacifica.
This sends the Pacifica spinning a full 360, a collision so hard that it has the Pacifica on its two left wheels.
Thankfully, the Pacifica doesn’t flip, and the Camry comes to a screeching halt.
Both cars stop I-20 traffic as the drivers regain their composure.
The driver in the Camry was up to no good and had no intention to stick around, as OP clarified.
“The footage continues after this and shows a man pulling the car over and exiting from the driver’s seat. The hard part will be IDing him…He also walked away on foot after the accident, taking his child with him, so I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess they don’t have insurance 😮💨”
OP further clarifies that, as of this blog post, police have not identified who the suspect in the Camry is.
“From the look of their doors, this isn’t their first incident,” one of the top comments from /u/TheLastLivingBuffalo reads.
“Turning recklessly on a spare with a child in the car…,” /u/pfcpartsz added.
“I’m all for removing licenses for dumb s*** like this. Hope they find him, put him in jail, he gets sued to s***, they prohibit him from ever driving again, and remove the child from his “care”.”
As for the driver in the Pacifica, OP shares that there was an entire family inside, but they seemed to make it out OK.
“…I pulled over and checked on the family in the white minivan. They were pretty shaken up, but thankfully everyone appeared uninjured.”
In Georgia, a driver who loses control and crashes may face citations such as failure to maintain lane (3 points) or reckless driving (4 points), depending on the circumstances. Leaving the scene of a crash involving another occupied vehicle is a separate offense that can carry criminal penalties, including fines, possible jail time, and license consequences depending on the severity of the crash. Driving a vehicle in an unsafe condition can also result in additional citations if the damage made it unsafe to operate. (dds.georgia.gov)
