NC State police were quick to pull over a driver who failed to allow a pedestrian to cross through this busy roundabout.
Raleigh-area driver and Redditor /u/EDOGGY147 shared a case of instant justice from earlier this September (Sept. 21, 2026) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit, showing a driver turning through a roundabout while a pedestrian was nearly halfway through the walkway in front of him.
Check out the open-and-shut case observed by NC State police below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened at the single-lane roundabout at Hillsborough St. and Pullen Rd (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed straight through Pullen, headed southwest through the heart of the campus.
Halfway through the roundabout, he observes a driver in a silver Lexus sedan turn right but fail to see a pedestrian start to cross.
The pedestrian is nearly halfway across when the Lexus passes the pedestrian.
Thankfully, the pedestrian was paying attention and was able to slow to allow the driver to pass in front of him.
NC state police was nearby, saw it all play out, and immediatly put on their siren and reds and blues to catch up to the unlucky driver.
“I live by a similar style roundabout. If the driver and the pedestrian don’t lock eyes, then it’s not safe to cross! That’s my rule,” the top comment from /u/NinjaDood reads.
“I hate to be “that guy,” but this kind of intersection practically invites this type of thing,” /u/brun064 shared, adding valuable insight to roundabout design.
“The silver car’s driver is looking left to make a right. And almost looking behind them because their car is pointed toward the merge. The driver is under the assumption that they can make a right when clear. So you come to a stop, looking left and behind the entire time to get a gap. Meanwhile, people are walking up to the intersection at their leisure. They see a stopped car, but have not made eye contact with the driver. But they are just crossing the road when they feel it’s safe…”
Unsurprisingly, this particular roundabout’s gone through at least one major makeover since it opened in 2010 with the goal of improving pedestrian safety.
“City engineers… reduced the traffic circle from two lanes to one as part of an overnight project…”
However, according to the previous commenter, the underlying problem remains.
In Raleigh, failure to yield to a pedestrian is generally a $100 fine plus court costs, under N.C. G.S. §20-158(b)(2)c. (nccourts.gov)
It carries 4 DMV points when the violation is the pedestrian right-of-way offense specified in G.S. §20-158(b)(2)b. (www3.ncleg.gov)
