This Tesla driver was so upset that someone cut them off that they swerved into oncoming traffic and nearly crashed just to overtake them.
Dutchess County-area driver and Redditor /u/Steveo_223 shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Poughkeepsie from earlier in September (Sept 26, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing a Tesla driver speeding, risking a head-on crash, just because someone turned in front of them.
Check out their hare-brained move below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the Red Oaks Mill neighborhood at the T-intersection of Pleasant Ln and Vassar Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is ready to turn left onto Vassar towards downtown Red Oaks Mill.
Spotting a gap in traffic between two Teslas, OP turns left and, realizing the Tesla to his right and now behind him is closing the gap fast, despite them already speeding beyond the 40 MPH speed limit, he guns it.
Apparently, this gesture to get up to speed so as not to further inconvenience the Tesla driver was not enough, as, with instant acceleration on tap, the Tesla driver swung into oncoming traffic and decided to thread the needle between OP and the F-Series truck headed his way.
The Ford swerves halfway into the shoulder just as the Tesla approaches, missing a head-on crash by a couple of feet.
The cherry on top is the brake check, as if they were driving like they weren’t in a rush.

Thankfully, all that amounted to was road rage between the two drivers; however, it could’ve ended a whole lot worse.
OP does admit that what he did, he’s open to criticism; however, he maintains he didn’t cut the Tesla driver off.

Yeah, no, you for sure cut them off,” /u/NocturneSapphire replied to the above comment from OP.
“That being said, their reaction is insane, especially with oncoming traffic.”
“Tesla HAD to “teach OP a lesson,” /u/International_Bend68 added.
In Poughkeepsie, deliberately entering oncoming traffic to cut off another driver could support reckless driving (VTL §1212), a misdemeanor carrying 5 DMV points and a $100–$300 fine for a first offense, plus possible surcharges. (NYSenate.gov) If charged instead as unsafe/improper passing or driving left of center, it is generally 3 points, with a typical base fine around $200 (before surcharges/fees). (NY DMV)
