The pickup driver with Virginia plates got upset with someone changing lanes in front of them and proceeded to road rage and throw a tantrum.
Montgomery County-area driver and Redditor /u/PlainWindowNotes shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier in October (Oct 17, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver, upset that someone changed lanes, supposedly a little too close for comfort for them, road-raged in revenge.
To top it all off, they threw trash out their window onto the Beltway, too.
Here’s how it played out below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened along I-495 in and around Bethesda and Potomac (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed southbound on I-495 towards the 190.
OP thoroughly explained in the comments how it went down.
“I was driving our minivan with my wife, our two young kids, and my father-in-law inside. The van has several “New Driver” stickers because my wife is learning, but I was driving,” OP explained in the comments.
“I changed lanes with what seemed like plenty of room…”
“The pickup behind me immediately started repeatedly honking and swerving between lanes, apparently trying to get around me. I was genuinely confused by how upset he was.
A screenshot of their plates is below: SZZ-9488.

“He eventually pulled alongside me on the right, moved directly in front of me, and braked, bringing us to a stop. I kept my attention forward and didn’t engage.”
“A couple of minutes later, I watched him throw trash out of his driver’s-side window onto the interstate.”
“Littering just makes me irrationally angry. We all live on this planet; why do you want it to be dirty?,” the top comment from /u/mdw2589 reads.
In Maryland, changing lanes without signaling generally carries an $80 fine and 1 point (3 points if it contributes to an accident).
If charged as reckless driving, road rage carries a maximum $1,000 fine and 6 points; aggressive driving carries a maximum $500 fine and 5 points.
Throwing trash out the window can carry a fine of up to $1,500 for ordinary littering, with penalties depending on the specific violation and circumstances.
