A pedestrian was left flustered, thankful to be alive after being nearly plowed into by a turning driver not paying attention.
Los Angeles County-area driver and Redditor /u/SoreLoser69 shared head-shaking dashcam footage from this busy Burbank intersection from earlier in October (Oct 12, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars, showing a driver, not fully paying attention, nearly plow through a pedestrian crossing with the right-of-way.
Here’s how it played out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened at the intersection of E Olive Ave and First St. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is on Olive ready to turn left onto First.
Signage and rules of the road indicate that drivers must yield to cross traffic and pedestrians before turning on a flashing yellow.
A driver in a silver Lexus in front of him, facing said flashing yellow, is so invested in completing his turn ASAP that he fails to see a pedestrian approach the crosswalk across from him and begin to cross.
The pedestrian is already several feet into the crosswalk when the driver in the Lexus guns it.
The pedestrian sees the approaching Lexus and freezes as the driver emergency brakes.
The pedestrian doubles back onto the sidewalk while the driver completes their turn.
Flustered and upset, the pedestrian can be seen yelling at the driver before giving them the middle finger (understandable, honestly)
OP pauses to let the pedestrian collect her thoughts before she eventually crosses, and OP turns, too; however, many commenters point out how OP started turning despite the pedestrian not being fully clear across OP’s lane.
“I like how the cam car started turning before she was halfway through the crosswalk lol. Lady should probably stay away from them for a bit,” /u/_AskMyMom_ pointed out.
“For whatever reason, this area in Burbank gets a lot of idiots!,” one of the top comments from local /u/TheSleepyAquarius reads.
“I’m kinda surprised the left turn light wasn’t just solid red given that the pedestrian crosswalk was on. driver was in the wrong, but it also seems like dumb intersection design, given they’d already installed the required traffic lights to prevent the issue,” /u/XxyxXII wondered.
In Burbank, failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian while turning is a violation of California Vehicle Code 21950. This infraction carries a base fine of approximately $238 (which can increase with added court fees and penalty assessments). Additionally, the violation will add one point to your DMV driving record, which remains for three years and can increase insurance rates.
