This doofus took a last-minute exit, risking a crash that could’ve been avoided by rerouting less than a mile later.
Schenectady County-area driver and Redditor /u/ImaSource shared head-shaking dashcam footage from the Crosstown Connection from earlier in October (Oct 15, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing this goofball taking a last-minute exit way too late, nearly crashing while trying to pull it off.
Here’s the dashcam play-by-play below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the early hours of the evening on NY 7 at the 890 West/ 890 East interchange (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed west on the Crosstown Connection in the leftmost lane.
Up ahead, a driver can be seen in lane #1 changing lanes across multiple lanes well into and past the gore zone onto 890 West.
A driver they cut off does their best to slow to accommodate the terrible driver.
A look on Google Maps reveals that, if they’d done the normal thing and rerouted, it would’ve taken them less than a mile to get to the next exit, which, in such light traffic, is practically no time/driving at all.

“Good luck. I turn now,” OP titled his thread, a reference to the oft-quoted scene in Family Guy of a driver sending it across multiple lanes.

“The van that they cut off handled that about as gracefully as one could lol,” one of the top comments from /u/Cavalol reads.
In New York, driving over a gore point (the striped area separating traffic lanes or exit ramps) may be cited as an improper turn, unsafe lane change, or another applicable traffic violation. The fine depends on the specific charge, while an unsafe lane change generally carries 3 DMV points; a generic first-offense traffic infraction can carry a fine of up to $150, plus applicable surcharges.
