Video has surfaced of a Honda Civic Hatchback in Thailand running an SR20 swap…from a Nissan! *Gasp*

We love pretty much most of the automotive shenanigans coming from Thailand mostly because they’re ahead of the import curve in some respects but mainly because their builds show us Americans what’s possible with a bit of hard work and ingenuity. A video recently surfaced earlier today thanks to XO Autosport (May 1, 2017) from Street Tech Tuning on this unique build from Pro Street 2 tuning based close to Bangkok, Thailand.  It’s a bog-standard Honda Civic Hatchback with a Nissan SR20 swapped into it. Check out the video below and let us know what you think of this most unholy union in the comments below!

First of all, as far as builds go, props has to go to the amount of work and sweat that went into pulling this build off. Ditching the more popular K or B series swap, this Honda owner went for an engine from its closest rival, Nissan. Powering this hatch is an SR20VE, not to be confused with its more popular turbocharged brother, the SR20DET. This engine is only found in JDM spec Nissan Primeras, Bluebirds and Wingroad’s but this is Thailand and rules can be bent on what engines go in which chassis. In addition, this SR20VE has been outfitted with ITB’s from a Toyota 4A-GE, bluetop cams, an ECU ready to run E-85, and a custom exhaust system to reroute the exhaust gasses thanks to this not being….well…a Nissan.

We posted this video up on NWP4Life, a popular Honda forum in the United States, to gauge some reactions from enthusiasts and purists alike and the reactions are inline with what we think as well. First, there were the Fast and Furious refrences apropos for this Civic/Nissan build,

…an sr20 will pull a premium a week before race wars

Then there were comments on how little power this NA beast with add-ons was making,

Cool swap and all but the numbers are upsetting for the amount of work. At least it sounds nice.

We don’t know the story why this owner chose this particular motor but we’re pretty sure that B and K series motors can be had in abundance in Thailand. There are literally hundreds of thousands of 1996-2000 Honda Civic Hatches running around the world. It’s bound to happen that an enthusiast will stuff something underneath the hood that won’t fly with purists. But that’s ok. It’s his build and it scoots along fairly quickly. More power to y’all in Thailand and we can’t wait to see what kind of unique Honda builds will “rustle the jimmies” of Honda fans the world over.

  1. SR20VE is still cheaper than any Honda swap. $900 for this engine that makes around 200whp with basic boltons vs a B or K swap thats 4k just for the engine and trans.
