It was literally seconds from destruction when this living SAINT saved this 1991 Honda CRX Si from certain destruction.
Do you have your heart pills ready because I’m about to relay to you a tale of how this blessed saint saved a 1991 Honda CRX Si from near destruction at the hands of a salvage yard. Read on.
Honda CRX Si’s, they’re like good dogs: yappy, loveable, and willing to do whatever you throw at its D-series engine. But some CRX Si owners are cruel and downright savages, throwing away used ones to the salvage yards.
Enter Redditor Samerooo who happened to be driving by a salvage yard when he literally saw a Tahitian Green Honda CRX Si being prepped for utter annihilation at the hands of a crusher.
If you didn’t already know, salvage yards will crush cars and sell them to metal separation plants who’ll then divide a car up into different materials like plastic, steel, aluminum, copper etc. Those materials are then sold by the ton to markets overseas like India and China presumably for a couple hundred dollars per metric ton. Salvage yards don’t see cars as loveable transportation vehicles, they see it as potential profit no matter what it is. The heavier the better.
Back to the CRX Si with just minutes to live. Samerooo literally yells over the fence for them to stop salvaging that CRX Si immediately and instead offers the yard manager money for the car. It’s a win-win situation really. He’ll probably sell the car for less than Samerooo would’ve found one for sale and that salvage yard will make some revenue off the car probably more than if they sold it for scrap.
According to Sameroooo,
I don’t know if it runs or anything. It’ll be delivered to me tomorrow morning!
108 HP from the SOHC 16-valve engine might not sound like a lot but in something weighing just 2,100 pounds, it’s more than enough. With all that power at 6000 RPM, you’ve got to really rev these little engines to get out anything from them. No matter as when you’ve got F1 inspired double wishbone suspension on all four corners, it’s a daily driver experience unmatched by cars of the time.
As you can see in the photos, this particular CRX Si is still a bit of a mystery but here’s to hoping for the best to its new owner.
