The Mitsubishi Galant last rolled off an assembly line in 2012 but that hasn’t stopped this industrial designer from reimagining this stalwart of Diamond Star motoring.
It’s not every day that I get to write about a Mitsubishi Galant so while I was scrolling through Twitter, my thumb paused at this rendering of a Galant reimagined for MY 2020. As per Filipino Industrial designer Enoch Gabriel Gonzales on his rendering that I caught wind of earlier yesterday (Sept. 16,2018) thanks to Car Scoops, this once-defunct sedan is brought into 2018, at least digitally. Using styling cues from what I assume is the current Mitsubishi lineup and drawing inspiration from the 2013 Mitsubishi Galant, this modern rendering brings out a bold and powerful looking new Galant that I would love to see Mitsubishi comment on.

Cars, in general, are pushed to the wayside for crossovers. That’s just the facts. It’s a big part of why Mitsubishi’s current lineup is bolstered heavily buy compact crossovers and SUVs. They sell what sells. But, there was a point in time more than a decade ago where the sedan, like the Mitsubishi Galant, reigned supreme. According to GoodCarBadCar, 2002 saw Mitsubishi push out close to 100,000 Mitsubishi Galants in N. America. Arguably, the early 2000’s was the golden age of Galant.
The 9th gen Mitsubishi Galant was built on the PS platform and was in my opinion, not a worthy predecessor to what Galant’s could’ve been, something big yet modern, pushing Mitsubishi into a better limelight in the American market. Instead, its unimpressive looks reflected sales. In 2012, only 13,261 Galants got sold, a shadow of its former self.
But this 2020 Mitsubishi Galant is something else. A large, and, bold grille takes up most of the front with a pair of thin and modern headlights is paired on either side. The side profile is reminiscent of some big-body muscle cars from Dodge and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Big sells in America. Out back there is a pair of tail lights that clearly take its inspiration from Galants of yore. A set of tastefully chromed exhaust pipes rounds things out, outback.
It’s an overall clean, yet bold design that would behoove any real-deal possible Galant designer to take a look at.
Stuff a 2.0T with a lithium-ion battery pack providing extra oomph and call it a day. I can imagine.
