Mazda is restoring first generation Mazda Miatas to factory fresh conditions and here’s the first one delivered to its owners.
God Bless Mazda for offering such a service, one where first gen Mazda Miata owners can literally drop their Miatas off at their restoration headquarters in Japan and owners can pick it up sometime later with their Miata restored to OEM, if not better, conditions. As per Mazda themselves in a blog post published earlier this week (Sept. 28,2018) after an extensive interview process, evaluating hundreds of applicants to undergo this exclusive service, they finally delivered, restoring this British Racing Green 1992 Mazda Miata Special V-edition. Check out a couple photos of the happy owner linked in the blog post above.
The lucky winner to have the honor of this prestigious service was formerly a tomato farmer living with his wife thoroughly enjoying his retirement. In his ownership was his beloved 1992 Mazda Miata which he’s owned for over 25 years, presumably since brand new.
It looks like he was informed that he was the lucky applicant chosen among forty other finalists who applied. And from expressions on his face when he received his car, he’s thoroughly happy with Mazda’s work.
“For me, it is” Roadster if it is a car. “I think that there are other alternatives, but the roadster is a car that is reasonably priced and can be ridden. It is restored this time and I am planning to ride for another 25 years. Although I do not do anything myself just by looking at it, I feel that even it is fun, “Kashinaga said.
This restoration process is very extensive. First, the Mazda Miata owner must have his Miata in Japan. The application states that “this service is only offered in Japan” which hints that if an owner is willing to ship their Miata to Japan, I don’t see why that’s not a possibility. After submitting multiple photos and a complete history of your Miata, one that has little rust and doesn’t have a damaged frame, you’ll be informed in a month. It literally says that in the application.
As per Japanese Nostalgic Car, their restoration process brings it up to German TUV standards, quite arguably the hardest auto governing body in the world.
As for total price of this service, it’s going to cost you thousands, perhaps even more than a new Miata depending on how much work needs to be done. But, what you get back is YOUR own Miata, restored to factory goodness. It’s something that buying a new Miata will never get you.
