Nissan always seems to choose the right brand ambassadors and while Nissan wants to usually put them into their eco-cars as a brand ambassador, it’s the faster cars they usually prefer.

You’d think 2018 US open champion Naomi Osaka would like the Nissan GT-R because it’s wicked fast but it’s for an entirely different reason altogether. As per an article that our friends over at Response.JP tweeted out earlier today Oct. 10, 2018) Nissan’s new brand ambassador Naomi Osaka revealed the reason she prefers Nissan’s more sporty offerings compared to their more pedestrian lineup. Osaka says that, ” I want to go to practice…” which makes sense. For a professional tennis player like Naomi Osaka, the only main reason she needs a car is to get to practice ASAP.

If you didn’t already know, close to a month ago, Naomi Osaka became an official brand ambassador of Nissan. In Nissan’s press release, it was clear that Nissan wants Osaka to push their Leaf.

“With a combination of grit and grace, Naomi Osaka is not afraid to take on the best tennis players of our time, and win,” said Asako Hoshino, senior vice president at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. “This is the same spirit of performance that Nissan has embodied throughout our history – exemplified most recently by the Nissan LEAF, which defied the odds to become the best-selling electric vehicle in the world.

Osaka revealed that she’s never owned a car in her life so to become a brand ambassador for Nissan for the foreseeable future only bodes well for the 20-year-old budding Tennis champion.

Going back to her off-the-cuff interview with Nissan, when she first made those remarks that she liked the GT-R, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Asahiko Hoshino was present and actually responded.

Mr. Hoshino managing director said “I understand, GT – R, let’ s give it a while” while quickly flinching.

So, while we already know that she’ll be riding around in Nissan’s, it’ll probably just be in the Nissan Leaf. But, if Nissan really wants her to represent the brand well, I say give her that Nissan GT-R to come out with during her practices. The GT-R will turn more heads than a Nissan Leaf ever could.

  1. […] Earlier last month I blogged about how Tennis super champ Naomi Osaka became brand ambassador for Nissan. And, while I was happy for her, Nissan really hinted that her winning performance was somehow connected to the “spirit of performance” in the Nissan Leaf. Anyone and everyone that read Nissan’s press release rolled their eyes at such a statement. Electric cars are fast and all but right now, there’s only one car in Nissan’s lineup that screams dominance, power, and grit, and that’s the GT-R. More so, Naomi Osaka herself said she prefers the GT-R because she wants to get to practice ASAP. Well, guess who won? Naomi, of course. […]
