If any Ocean City locals feel upset about this weekend, take solace in that a handful of people got $1,000+ tickets. This one dude got a $1,700 ticket, and that’s not all.

Most people went to Ocean City, Maryland for H2OI 2019 and expect to hang with their mates, drink a few beers, watch two burnouts and eat some bad Mexican food. Sure, getting tickets is a risk but you’ve got $100 for that kind of expense.

Well, OCPD hit this dude with a ticket, all right. It was a mega-ticket with four charges totalling $1,680 or a hair under $1,700. I mean, at that point, in for a penny, in for a pound, just throw the extra $20 in there.

The poor sap, who I’ll not name to keep his shred of dignity intact, posted up the ticket on Facebook earlier this weekend with all the details.

For those keeping score, let’s run through each charge. It looks like OCPD went through every ticketable offense they could find to prove a point, don’t mess with local law.

First, speeding. Since this is a special event zone, OCPD will hit you with a fine for speeding in Worcestor County and for speeding in a special events zone. Going between 30-39 MPH over the speed limit hits this guy with a $740 special events zone fine on top of his $290 speeding fine.

Then there’s the negligent and reckless driving charge. Rolling through a stop sign or failing to use his signal probably got him that negligent driving charge at a mere $140, but the icing on the cake was that $510 reckless driving charge when you put the public’s safety at risk.

To give you an idea of how much $1,700 is, that’s like 2,695 Jack in the Box Tacos. Yah, I did the math. At $1.19 for two plus OCMD six percent tax, that’s how many there are.

And that’s not all for Ocean City’s highest ticketing for the weekend, there’s someone who got $1,710 in tickets but that was two separate offenses and his tickets are hard to read. I’d ask him to re-upload a higher resolution but I’m not that mean.

From the thread chronicling the highest tickets from this past weekend’s H2OI 2019 event, there were more than a handful with over $1,000, dozens if not hundreds with $100+ tickets, and lots of those $70 burnout ones.

You’ve got to pay to play and while a small percentage of ticketed H2OI goers probably didn’t deserve them, the vast majority did.

This is probably OCPD’s most stressful weekend, by far. But also, one of the most profitable.
