The last Crown Vic rolled off Ford assembly lines nine years ago, but that doesn’t mean some city fleets aren’t holding on to them like the gems they are.

While most police forces around the nation have switched over to Ford Explorers, Dodge Chargers, and Chevrolet Caprices, there are plenty of fleets with their beloved Crown Vics, running just as reliable as ever. But, even Lincoln, Nebraska’s police department realized times, they are a’changin’ and officially retired the last Ford Crown Victoria in its fleet with a pithy farewell, fitting for such a reliable steed.

Check out their goodbye to the Crown Vic below.

Although this particular police vehicle looks like it’s a decade old or even older, without a dent on its body, a modern police light bar, and a relatively easy life serving with the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course team, it looks as fresh as ever.

Praised for its durability, ease of repair thanks to its modular design, and bulletproof engines, it’s easy to see why Lincoln Police are teary-eyed to see this ol’ boy out to pasture.

I’d be remiss not to mention some of the more noteworthy comments in their post.

Former police officer and Nebraska resident Mike Veburg recalled, ” Lincoln Nebraska is Where I was born and raised. My first vehicle ever was a 1996 Ford P71 from LPD, it was the NW sergeant’s car. Bought on auction block in 2005 for $1400. 73,000 miles and no hubcaps lol. F for respect.”

Ralph Spangler’s post takes the cake, though.

“Oh man the memories in that Crown Vic♥️♥️nothing says comfort like a hard plastic rear seat, cold to the touch with perfect arm slots to ease the hand-cuffs from cutting into the skin. God bless the Ford Crown Victoria!! “

As the blog posts go by, I feel like I’ll eventually blog about other police forces retiring their Crown Vics as these chassis get older, parts become less and less readily available and it gets less cost effective to keep these workhorses running.

Are there any police forces that still use Crown Vics in your area? Let me know about those Ford gems in the comments below.
