If you drive a newer model Palisade or Telluride, you might find it hard to park in downtown Nashville.

Parking garages cost millions of dollars to build and, at least for this Nashville parking garage, management is taking no chances. A signed shared on the “Useless, Unsuccessful, and/or Unpopular Signage” Facebook group shows an A-Frame sign specifically prohibiting the popular 2020-2022 Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride.

Check out what the sign looks like courtesy of the group below.

These SUVs are SUV non grata.

“For safety purposes, Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade in the years 2020-2022 are prohibited from parking at this facility,” the sign reads.

OP captioned the photo with, “I don’t understand” which is understandable. Why would a parking garage ban a particular car, and only three model years at that?

In case you didn’t know, according to the NHTSA there’s an active recall for risk of fire that affects over a quarter million of the aforementioned Korean SUVs.

Apparently an accessory tow hitch “may allow moisture into the harness module, causing a short circuit and, in some cases, an electrical short can cause a fire while driving or parked and off.”

The NHTSA is so concerned over a potential fire, they’re advising Telluride and Palisade owners to park outside.

It’s worth noting that no actual fires caused by this faulty tow hitch have been reported.

Practically speaking, there’s no real way to enforce this parking garage ban except for actively checking the model year found on the DOT stickers under the hood or by the front door sills which, if you’re being paid Tennessee’s minimum wage ($7.25/hr) to watch parked cars, there isn’t much incentive to hustle to inconvenience a potential parker over a fire that probably won’t happen.

However, if you do drive a Hyundai or Kia affected by that fire recall and wantonly decide to park at this parking garage despite what the sign says and your SUV happens to catch fire with a fire originating where the recall said it would, parking garage management just might sue your insurance for damages as a result of your negligence.

If you are affected and have the recall notice, get it addressed ASAP.

  1. I think this is very ignorant on the behalf of the building, muiltiole brands have wayyy worse recalls that’s just a tow hitch, but where’s the sign? Ford recalled over 500k vehicles for fires, no sign, Toyota recalled over 130k vehicles for fire, no sign, when it comes to a Kia or Hyundai recall, it’s always such a a big deal, when it comes to other manufacturers recalls, no one even cares to even talk about it.
