In 23 years, this Mustang’s needed very few repairs to stay on the road.

Browsing one of my favorite Facebook groups dedicated to high-mileage cars and I came this super-high mileage 1999 Ford Mustang GT owned by Virginia resident Jason Moore.

1999 Ford Mustang sporting its New Edge design, new for ’99.

Check out a photo of his gauge cluster with the odometer turning over 450,000 miles below.

Moore’s ’99 Mustang gauge cluster.

Moore’s only provided us with that one photo with a handful of details. But, for a robust car as this generation Mustang is (as I soon came to realize researching for this blog post,) a handful of sentences was all that was needed.

“Just hit 450k in my 99 Mustang,” Moore captions his photo. “Original motor. Never been further in than an intake gasket. Original timing chains et.

In another comment he makes it clear that he, “never took the front timing chain cover off.”

Moore doesn’t say what transmission he has but either one, the 5-speed or the 470W 4-speed automatic, are tough as burnt flank steak.

Although Moore didn’t initially point out the trim level, as one keen eye’d group member pointed out, a 150 MPH speedo meant this Mustang is packing Ford’s legendary iron-block 4.6L 2V SOHC Modular V8.

With performance improved heads for ’99, this GT puts out a stout 260 HP and 302 lb-ft.

With this Mod motor also under the hood of legendary Fords like the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and limo fleet favorite, the Lincoln Towncar, is it any wonder this Mustang lasted as long as it did?

“Have ran it hard. Had it since I was 18. When I bought it, it had 25,000 miles on it.”

Others commented attesting to the reliability of these 4.6L V8s.

“I used to drive taxis in Phoenix,” Scott J Elwood comments. “A lot of the old ones before they switched to Toyota Priuses were old Crown Vic Interceptors, many had half a million miles on them.

450,000 miles means Moore drove a lot more than the average American (13,000 miles/year) racking up about 20,450 miles a year.

Despite being a 280-cu inch V8, if Moore cruised on the highway, according to a quick Google, 30 MPG is not out of the realm of possibility although, realistically according to owners, mid-20s is smore likely.

The way Moore presented and worded his Mustang’s mileage feat it sounds like he expects his Mustang GT to easily reach half a million miles which, by his mileage, should be sometime around 2025.

Do you have one of these New Edge 4th Gens and/or know a 4th gen with higher mileage than Moore’s?
