This owner’s engine oil and transmission flush regime might surprise you.

Car mechanic /u/Br0keGee shared on the /r/justrolledintotheshop subreddit that he’s personally responsible and has been maintaining a 2008 Honda Civic with automatic transmission that has 871,968 miles on what he claims is the original engine and transmission.

Check out his unbelievable photo of this Civic’s mileage feat below.

Here’s a 2008 Civic for reference.

How’d the owner get to such a high mileage? Like a lot of these super high mileage cars, a really long commute, day in and day out, is how.

“He just drives back and forth to work every day,” he replied. “A little over 200 miles round trip a day.”

All those miles works out to about 62,000 miles a year, about five times more than the average person drives.

Remember that 1990 Honda Accord that hit a million miles in 2011? (Details about that Accord can be found here.)That Accord took 21 years to roll over that many miles, which averages out to about 47,000 miles a year.

On a miles/year perspective, this Civic’s feat thus far is kind of already more impressive than Million Mile Joe’s Accord.

And, if you’re curious about what this owner’s maintenance schedule looked like, it’s surprisingly boring.

“(An) oil change every 5,000 miles with synthetic oil and a transmission flush every 30,000 miles, never skips a beat on those services. He’s currently in for a rack and pinion, valve adjustment, and some CV Axle Seals, all original parts coming off and Honda parts going back on.”

The oil changes and transmission flushes aligns with Honda’s maintenance minder scheduled for that year Civic which reminds you to get said oil change and transmission fluid changed at around 6,000 miles and 25,000 miles respectively.

As the titles mentions, this Civic is on track to hit 1 million miles sometime in 2025.

The mechanic hints at this owner living in a snowy, slushy clime as, re that one million mile goal, “The rust might get it before the motor goes out.”

At that time, since it feels like this Civic owner isn’t stopping work anytime soon, he’ll need a new car.

“He said his next car will be…. yup, you guessed it, another Honda. He has 3 Hondas in the driveway. Wife and kid drive a Honda.”

Hopefully OP provides mileage updates and, if he doesn’t, I might have to DM him once a year just to see if this Civic’s still kicking.
