These two lesbians assured us that this is indeed not a joke.

Cassidy, who goes by @CassidyKaschmitter on TikTok, posted up a now viral video earlier last weekend showing her and her partner (Britney) literally struggling for hours trying to figure out how to jump start their own car.

Check out their now viral video below. (mirror here just in case the videos below go 404.)

As Cassidy explains in her first video, it sounds like she’s trying to jump start what looks like a Kia Sorento Hybrid.

“I’m changing (charging?) a battery in negative 2 degree weather?

“Have I done a battery before, I have not.”

“Do I know where my battery is? No, I do not.”

After literally hours and pulling out the Kia Owner’s manual, they both figure out her battery is not under the hood, but in the trunk.

Common in many hybrid vehicles, the 12V battery is not under the hood, it’s often mounted under the rear seat or where the spare tire usually is.

“Miss Panic on the phone for three hours with three people,” Cassidy says to Britney shortly after finding the elusive 12V battery.

Britney’s car, the one with the good battery, also happens to have her battery in the trunk, too.

Figures.

With their car’s rear ends back to back, they then proceed with the challenge that is connecting the cables correctly.

Not being taught how to do this (a point Cassidy clarifies later) they make several big mistakes.

Here’s what the KIA’s owner’s manual says, showing the correct connection procedure, starting with the dead battery, going to the good battery, and then going back to the dead battery.

Sorento Hybrid jump start procedure.

Britney does it all wrong.

First, she starts with negative clamp when you’re supposed to start with the positive clamp.

Then, she connects the positive clamp on the dead battery when she really should’ve connected the positive clamp first.

Her big mistake was not making sure the other clamps on the other end of the cable weren’t touching, which they were.

When she connects the positive cable to the dead battery, she’s essentially completed a circuit, and her clamps spark.

It scares her, but Cassidy encourages her to complete the connections (even though she should’ve read the manual again, disconnected the cables, and re-connected them in the correct order.)

Thankfully, this time no further sparking happens and, as confirmed in a followup video, she eventually gets her Kia started.

Unbothered with how much negative attention her video got (4.5 million views and counting,) they were absolutely roasted in the comments.

TikTok, what can I say.

“You two need to just go back inside and make cookies,” @Rickie1962 commented.

““I don’t need no man” ????,” @BobbyTwedJr added.

“The fact they even found the battery in the trunk is a miracle to me,” @Alex.AL_26 replied.

While arguably mean comments, under the misogyny, they do have a point, jump-starting a car incorrectly can be dangerous.

When connected incorrectly like Britney did, sparks can ignite the invisible hydrogen gas venting from a battery, potentially causing a fire.

“I wish I could tell you it was a joke, but it’s not a joke. It’s completely real, and I’m not embarrassed because I was never taught how to do these things, and neither was Britney.”

There’s nothing wrong with not knowing how to do some arguably basic adult skills.

At least they were smart enough to ask for help.

Unfortunately, the three people they called didn’t seem to be much help.

When it comes to basic car maintenance, your owner’s manual and the internet (Youtube) is your friend.

You don’t want to take car maintenance too lightly because doing it the wrong way can cause injury or worse (not setting up jack stands correctly, for example.)

If you know you can’t do it safely, it’s best not to power through it and to call for help, instead.

When you’re getting help, empower yourself to learn how to do it correctly.

I’m sure Cassidy and Britney now know the correct way to jump start their respective vehicles.

  1. Okay. Two women didn’t know what to do. My wife and daughter probably wouldnt either. You have no idea about their orientation except they aren’t mechanically inclined. Plenty of young men who had not been shown what to do would have been similarly flumoxed. Shame on you. So says a 100% red blooded straight male! An engineer that would have been happy to help these folks.

    • For the record they’re the ones who captioned their TikTok video like that. They ARE lesbians, so yes, I (everyone) knows their orientation.

  2. My idiot nephew who was 25 at the time didn’t know where the jack was for his truck. Nor did he know how to use it,or change a tire. He did know how to score drugs.
There’s millions of people out there who can’t do the most basic things for their automobile. Check air pressure in the tires, check the oil, transmission fluid, jump a battery, replace a wiper blade, fill the window washing fluid. At 15 I could replace most engine parts. Waterpump, fuel pump, carburetor, tires, etc.
That was a different time. We were much more self sufficient and capable. We also were much more confident and were given positive reinforcement from both parents.
The latest generation is a shit show. I always tell my wife that if there is a natural disaster millions will perish from stupidity and lack of common sense.

  3. You would be amazed at how many people don’t even know where their battery is let alone how to jump start it. I’ve seen some people at the gas station who didn’t know how to pump gas.

  4. Silly Millennial/GenZs. Must not have to change a battery in Grand Theft Auto so.. should’ve called a GenX REAL woman to come n show em how its done.. heee!
