Despite a healthy dose of honking from the dashcam owner, this idiot still insisted and made a left turn against traffic and double solid yellow lines.
Puyallup commuter and Redditor /u/RobynHeud shared frustrating dashcam footage from earlier this April (Apr 19, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an idiot driver on E Main Ave insisting on making an illegal turn even if that meant going over a set of double solid yellow lines and against traffic to do so.
Their dashcam video from Reddit is embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the 2700 block of E Main Ave (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
In the dashcam video, we can see OP driving in the left-hand lane heading into a dedicated turn lane.
As she approaches a driveway into a dental office on her right, a driver in a teal Chevrolet Trailblazer (license plate CKW2020) can be seen driving over a set of double solid yellow lines against traffic, attempting to make a left turn.
OP comes front bumper-to-bumper with the driver in the Trailblazer and lays on her horn.
“That is not a lane. Get out!,” she can be heard exclaiming to the driver, her horn still sounding.
“That’s not a turn lane.”
The POV switches to the rear, and we can still see the offending driver doubling down on their illegal maneuver, waiting for traffic to clear or someone to let him in.
“Laid on my horn until he moved. Didn’t take the hint though.”
Unfortunatly, another driver behind OP and other traffic eventually slow to a stop to let the idiot driver complete their turn, further legitimizing his move and perpetuating the problem.
“They are just asking for a head-on collision,” the top comment from /u/SayNope2Dope754 replied.
“Someone let them in and that is EXACTLY why they do it,” /u/xNIGHT_Rangerx added.
“Finally!!! Someone with balls to make the stupid driver move out of their lane. Love how she stood her ground,” /u/K!TSUNE9 complimented OP.
In Washington, making an illegal turn, crossing double solid yellow lines, and driving against traffic are all violations of the Revised Code of Washington, each punishable by a base fine of $48 before fees and additional penalties.
If his illegal turn resulted in an accident, the base fines increase.
And, if his actions are judged to be reckless, if cited, he could face a fine of up to $5000, just under a year in jail, and a 30-day license suspension.
What’s even more infuriating is how far the closest legal turn lane to make a U-turn was for that person; it was just 475 feet away, or less than 1/10th mile.
When is a yellow pavement marking a ‘median’ and can I turn left across it?

Q: Is it legal to turn left across two solid yellow lines? What about an extra-wide single yellow line?
A: Lines. Our highways are covered with them. White, yellow, solid, dashed.
It’s understandable that there might be some confusion about what they all mean and when and where we are allowed to cross them.
Today, we here at Traffic Q&A headquarters will try to decipher the rules for solid yellow lines running down the middle of the highway.
First, let’s take up the case of two solid yellow lines separating lanes of travel. Most of you know that means no passing. But can you cross them to make a left turn?
Turns out you can.
This from the Washington Driver’s Guide: “You may cross yellow lane markings, except medians, to turn left if it is safe.” That includes into an alley, driveway or private road, according to RCW 46.61.130.
It is however illegal to cross an 18 inch SOLID YELLOW LINE.
