This dashcam owner wonders if this old man should be behind the wheel after pulling off a classic old people move of being ignorant to cross traffic.

Lee County driver and Redditor /u/S2KeepUp shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier March (Mar 27, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an elderly driver exiting this Walgreens and, instead of being aware of fast approaching cross traffic, crawls across the street, almost getting t-boned in the process.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened along Imperial Parkway just before the intersection with Bonita Beach Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed south on Imperial Parkway towards the aforementioned intersection.

As he approaches the driveway exit to Walgreens to the left, a driver, who’s later revealed to be an old man likely with his wife, exits but, instead of driving at a reasonable speed towards the left turn lane, they can be seen crawling, creeping along, with no regard for approaching cross traffic.

OP recognizes a crash is imminent and emergency brakes.

The sound of his car’s ABS furiously working can be heard.

Thankfully, he stops in time, inches from the driver’s door.

The elderly man can be seen looking OP’s way and essentially waving him off.

“Yes, I had a slow reaction,” OP clarified in his reply in the comments.

“This cut across move is done all the time (doesn’t make it safe), and I assumed this was another case. Saw Gramps wasn’t going fast enough to do that and slammed on the brakes.”

The horn honking is the car behind me who also had to brake hard. I wish I got video because he was absolutely screaming at the old guy after I went around. He beeped again, just to solidify his point I’m sure.

“This happens way too often in Florida.”

In Florida, unsafe lane movement or failing to maintain a single lane (like creeping into another lane and endangering traffic) is typically cited as a noncriminal moving violation under Florida Statute 316.089. You’re usually looking at a fine around $100–$160 depending on the county, plus 3 points on your license if convicted. If it causes a crash or is deemed careless driving, penalties can increase significantly, including higher fines and possible court appearance.
