Motorcycle rider dipped into the grassy area between Highway 52 and Exit 90 just so they didn’t miss their exit.
Eau Claire County-area driver and Redditor /u/PhyterNL shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in May (May 4, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a motorcycle rider using his free will to, instead of missing his exit and backtracking, go into the grassy area of a gore zone embankment, to do a little off-roading, and hopping back onto his intended exit instead.
Check out Evil Knievel turned Ivan “Ironman” Stewart below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on Highway 53 (Peace Memorial Highway) at Exit 90 towards 312 Q North Crossing (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on Highway 53 towards Chippewa Falls.
In the fast lane, a rider on what looks like a Harley comes flying by OP.
As the Harley rider passes Exit 90, he brakes, realizing this is the exit he’s supposed to take.
Instead of taking the next exit, which, I measured, is only 2 miles away, the Harley rider goes into the grass embankment, through the gore point, and goes off-roading to make his exit.
Thankfully, there were no other cars around him, and legality aside, no harm, no foul, right?
“I’m actually impressed he didn’t wipe. Who knows what’s in that grass: rocks, holes, mud. Incredibly dumb risk apparently to catch up to some friends we observed later,” OP commented.
“I’m impressed that he’s ridden long enough to be able to handle the bike like that, but somehow not long enough to know it’s just-not-worth-it levels of dangerous,” /u/RBeck added.
“I see you Eau Claire. Crazy because everyone on 53 usually drives 10 miles under the speed limit,” local/u/Ope_Average_Badger threw in.
In Wisconsin, riding a motorcycle through a gore area/grass embankment to make an exit would typically be treated as unsafe lane deviation or operating off the roadway/median, and possibly failure to maintain control depending on the officer’s call.
Fines usually land in the range of about $175–$300+ once surcharges are added, but it can vary by county and citation type.
In terms of license impact, it’s commonly 3 to 6 demerit points, which can start stacking quickly if there are any other moving violations involved.
