Sure, KIA says the Stinger GT makes 365 HP and 376 lb-ft at the crank, but you better believe we can’t wait till someone straps one to a dyno. Thankfully, someone in Australia did. According to CarAdvice.com on their latest uploaded video on Youtube they dropped earlier yesterday (Nov. 5, 2017) a KIA Stinger GT with the optional turbocharged V6 was strapped to a rear wheel dyno and given the beans.
The KIA Stinger GT has been making its journalist rounds around the world and so far, first impressions have overall been positive for the muscle sedan from South Korea. Base model Kia Stinger’s come with a potent turbocharged inline-four good for 255 HP and 260-lb-ft, but step up to the optional V6 for about $7,000 more and you get 365 HP and 376-lb-ft.
Thankfully, this video was without fluff, and seeing that it was only 80 seconds long was a relief as some videos tend to draw out a dyno pull. As you can see from the screenshot below, the power curve (for horsepower at least) climbed steadily throughout the rev range and slightly tapered off in the 5-6K RPM rev range. Nevertheless, power delivery looked to be smooth and continuous, no obvious gaps in the graph.
If you’re like me and were doing some arm-chair math, this represents a 16.7 percent decrease in power loss through the drivetrain, rear limited slip differential, and automatic transmission. A manual option isn’t available. Keep in mind that this is only one particular dyno on this day at whatever ambient conditions they were running.
Overall, this dyno run bodes well for what we can expect in terms of power delivery from their Stinger GT.
Kia’s Stinger GT is pulling some serious weight in the Entry-luxury level for cars. Priced where it is, it’s an attractive alternative to the likes of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A4, and its main rival, the BMW 3-series.
For now, we only have to wait till next month in December when we find out if enthusiasts are willing to put their money where their mouths are and spring for this Korean muscle car.
