YouTuber Danny Duncan filmed himself using his Honda Fit with drivers assist like it’s an autonomous car, except it isn’t.
Update 12/2019 via the comments-

Repeat after me Danny Duncan, “drivers assist is not autonomous driving.” But I’m sure you knew that already and filmed yourself, “For the LOLS.” According to Danny Duncan off of his social media earlier yesterday (Mar. 14, 2018) he filmed himself eating a cabbage…from the passenger seat…with no one in the drivers seat…going down the freeway in the fast lane in a Honda Fit with, at best, a level 2 autonomous driving assist. Check out the video of his cabbage eating shenanigans below!
In the video, Danny lets his Honda Fit, equipped with Honda’s suite of driving assist technologies dubbed “Honda sensing,” drive itself down a busy California freeway.
While it is technically possible for a Honda equipped with Honda Sensing to accelerate, brake, and steer itself on a relatively easy bit of driving, Honda Sensing isn’t autonomous driving. In fact, there are currently no autonomous driving cars available for sale. For all intents and purposes, a driver must be behind the wheel at all times.
That’s not to say Honda Sensing isn’t a clever bit of technology, it’s actually pretty good at driving itself. With Lane Keep Assist, a Honda can steer itself to keep your car in the center of a detected lane. With adaptive cruise control, a Honda can keep a set interval behind a detected vehicle. And with Collision Mitigation, a Honda can automatically brake if it determines a collision is imminent.
But it isn’t autonomous driving.
In fact, in the owners manual, for example under Collision Mitigation Braking System, the system that’ll most likely get you out of a sticky situation if you’re not paying attention, it says that,
The CMBS is designed to reduce the severity of an unavoidable collision. It does not prevent collision nor stop the vehicle automatically. It is still your responsibility to operate the brake pedal and steering wheel appropriatly according to the driving conditions.
The CMBS may not activate or may not detect a vehilce in front of your vehicle under certain conditions.
And under the detection limitations on P. 476, one of those general limitations is,
If a vehicle suddenly crosses in front of you.
Basically, these are the terms and conditions Honda sets out for you when you activate their suite of driving assist.
You cannot safely brake your Honda Fit from the passenger seat in the event of an imminent collision. If you did hurt someone during this stunt, you’d most likely be handed down a punishment in line with reckless driving.
Don’t do these types of stunts again, Danny Duncan. Drive safe and keep your butt in the driver’s seat.
Also, put on a shirt.

[…] Earlier last year I blogged about this idiot Youtuber who really used Honda’s suite of advanced driver assistance features, otherwise known as Honda Sensing, like it was operating on Level 5 autonomy. In other words, the man was eating a cabbage naked in the passenger’s seat with his Honda hurtling down the freeway at freeway speeds. Not cool. […]
Dude is heated cuz he aint got bread like Danny Duncan
Two comments from the same IP? lol. I’ll let you decide which comment supporting Danny you’d like to keep up.
you are just mad you aren’t Danny Duncan
Hey this is Danny.. the Honda Fit doesn’t have any driving sensing shit I just put it on cruise control. That’s a 2015 fit there’s nothing to that car just pure machinery. My tesla drives auto but it won’t if you’re not in the seat lol. Ya I’m an idiot
LOL… title of this article, “YouTuber Danny Duncan filmed himself using his Honda Fit with drivers assist like it’s an autonomous car, accept it isn’t.” EXCEPT… there are certain things spell check cannot correct! 🤦🏻♀️ and that looks like lettuce not cabbage….
You’re just mad.
[…] Duncan still has his video, where he sits in the passenger seat of his Honda Fit while no one is driving on his TikTok. I blogged about this incident two years ago, assuming he had Honda Safety Sense […]
