Lincoln introduces limited edition Continental sedan with iconic suicide doors, or as they’re called now, Coach Doors.
In a move that fans of the luxury Ford brand have called for since the car was first teased as a concept more than 16 years ago, in and of itself, a nod to the fourth generation Lincoln Continental introduced in the 1960’s, Lincoln, in a press release that went out earlier today (Dec. 17,2018) has officially brought back suicide doors to the Lincoln Continental for 2018. Of course, in this new politically correct climate, they aren’t called suicide doors but a more acceptable Coach Doors which was first used by Rolls Royce.

As mentioned, this is not the first time Lincoln brought coach doors to the Continental, they also debuted a concept with the infamous doors back in 2001 at the 2002 New York Auto Show. But, as we soon found out, that concept never made it into production.
I’m a huge Lincoln Continental fan, so imagine my surprise when I heard rumors of suicide doors on the next model. That was short-lived however when I saw this article about the 2002 Continental concept. Anybody else in favor of just making this one? https://t.co/5ZS562skYy

Fans of the brand were again disappointed to find out that in 2015, when the new concept for the production sedan as we know it was again introduced, no coach doors were visible.
But, here we are, 80 years later after Lincoln first became a company and only now does Ford finally think it’s time to bring back these iconic Lincoln design styling cue. Of course, this comes after rumors that Lincoln was going to kill the Continental sedan along with a handful of other Ford sedans thanks to consumer preference for crossovers and SUVs. If this coach edition sees itself play out as a success, it looks like those initial rumors are only that. rumors.
Only 80 of these special coach door editions are built for 2019 with production open for anyone who wants to buy one for 2020.
Compared to regular Continentals, these Coach door editions are structurally six-inches longer throughout the wheelbase giving the continental Best in Class passenger seating room.
Visually, the coach doors do add that bit of Lincoln class that I’ve expected from Continental all along. Just the way those center door handles meet, it’s very Lincoln.
Supposedly these Continentals won’t come cheap with these special editions coming in at $100,000 a piece.
Well, I’m glad these Coach doors are back and hope to see one in the wild.
